As we press on the reminders on the “little” things Christians must know to lead the life God intended us to lead.Things that will work for us or against us and things we need to do or not do,we get to C.
C is for Conviction and Condemnation
Both of these have one common factor which is judgement.
Not all judgement is bad,but how it’s administered and what effect will it produce is key and important.
Why is it then important for a Christian to recognise which is which,
Well it’s rather simple. These two can easily be mistaken for the other and if not properly discerned, that will wreak havoc in a Christian’s life.
So then Condemnation seeks to judge you into realising what you have done wrong but the manner in which it is done,is such that the end result will bring you shame, regret, guilt ,fear, resentment which in the end doesn’t set to “rehabilitate” the individual in question but often times, makes the behaviour worse.
In a state of Condemnation then, one is constantly reminded of the wrong they have done and they will never see themselves any better off than they currently are.
Condemnation is a result of judgement either self judgement or judgement passed on us by others.
In either case the results are all the same.
When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee?
She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more. John 8 v 10-11
This is the time when they had brought a woman caught in the act of adultery over to Jesus.
Notice how He dealt with this situation marvellously,he recognised the fact they were all condemning her and nothing positive was to come out of it.They only seek one thing which to show her, her guilt and end her life.Nothing positive here at all.Jesus then, did prove their Hypocrisy, for none stoned her,he had simply answered them:
He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her John 8 v 7
Even Jesus himself let her go,infact he set her free.
For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
John 3 v 17
Interesting how everyone knows the verse 16 before this one but not a lot pay attention to how the chapter ends.
The very purpose Jesus came the first time around was to redeem mankind and not to condemn it.This is Yet another time Jesus mentions about not condemning,he said those that are in him/believe in him are not condemned, the purpose for it was to show those that didnot believe in him, that he was the light and the light had come.
Paul mirrors this Rom 8v1:-
8 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
And the Lord God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou? And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself. Gn 3 v 8-9
Watch Adams reaction once he became aware of his sin,he hid away in shame and fear. Now I understand why God had to shut man out of the garden and protect the tree of life.If man had eaten from the tree of life then all mankind would have lived forever but would have remained in an eternal state of condemnation without hope of redemption,…woo thank God for Jesus.
Now,notice then when feeling condemned one always stays away from God,this is so because one looses their sense of righteousness.
–watch:- I never said that one looses their righteousness but I said their “sense” of righteousness.Your righteousness is not a result of you but of Jehovah Tsidkenu, for his name sake, for he is your righteousness.
And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.Rev 12 v 10
I then submit to you that condemnation is the work of the devil or his agents since condemnation always has an accusatory tone to it.Now since the point of attack from the devil towards you is in your mind,he introduces thoughts in your head and constantly reminds of your short comings to the point that you begin to believe the lies he is telling you.
The only way to combat this is to confess.A word very misunderstood by many.
Confession is all about “agreeing with what God says about you”:–
-If he said you are more than a conqueror then you are.
-If he say you are his beloved child then you are.
-If he says he will never leave you not forsake you then he won’t.
-If he said you were redeemed from sin and death, then listen u were.
-If he said all your sin and inequity he remembers no more then he doesn’t.
Remember his word created the heavens and the earth, his word is sovereign. Isaiah wrote in 55 v 11:-
So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.
We need to get out of the trend of believing the negative over the positive but sadly that what mostly happens in a Christians lives’.
Let’s renew our minds.
Now don’t think that you can run around free and act a fool and let your life represent sin just because you are forgiven,no no no!!
If you are truly saved and baptised in the Holy Ghost, then meet Mr Holy Ghost,he is about to convict you.
See now here he will show the wrong you are doing or have done but this will all be in an effort to get you to do better for the next time you encounter or are encountered with the same situation/temptation that just got you defeated. He convicts ie convinces you to do better.
This process can feel like condemnation to begin with but the key difference is,conviction wont go past the point where you feel worthless to change.
Infact the key to recognising that you are being convicted is that the moment you start to repent all the guilt, shame, fear, all the negative stuff will just start to supernaturally lift off you.
Repentance is however another word very misunderstood, this means to “change ones mind about a situation/behaviour in an effort to do right” James wrote in 4v7:-
Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
Therefore then conviction can only be the work of the Holy Spirit,it’s that inner voice that encourages you to do better, reminds you that you are worth more than your actions
“I may ve done what they said I did,but I am not what they say I am”
–the Spirit within guides, comforts, makes intercession, corrects, coaches, tells it like it is–
One writer says:-
Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.Rom 8v26.
Jesus put it like this in john 14:-
And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;
So what are to say then?Well
Don’t be so far gone that you can’t be convicted.Equally don’t be so far down in the dumps that you feel like the cat that ate the cream, and won’t do nothing can’t do nothing about your situation
Very important to understand these two in your life and the parts they play.
