F for Faith (I)

This is a big one,it’s a book in itself.

Great things have happened because of faith and conversely great things too have been lost because of the lack of it.From the old, into the new to the present time.

My life personally changed for the better when I got an understanding and began to operate all aspects of my life in faith

I would go as far as putting faith to be the most important thing after salvation.

If you don’t have faith (better way of putting it should be if you have lost your faith) you may as well give up because nothing operates with In the kingdom of God absent faith.

In order to do faith justice the chapter must be broken into parts covering:-

  • What is it?
  • Who has it?
  • When is it?
  • Where is it?
  • Who is it in?
  • What does it do?
  • How does it work?
  • How does it come to us?
  • What hinders/strengths it?
  • How can it be developed?
  • What are the dangers of not having it?
  • Why must we have it?
  • Why is it so important?
  • What is proving your faith?
  • What are works of faith
  • It is use it or lose it?

Let’s get into this am excited. So faith,What is it ? Who has it? When is it? Where is it? What does it do?

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

According to Hebrews 11 v 1,much can be extrapolated from this passage of scripture.

  1. Faith is the materialisation which gives tangibility to the things we hope for/expecting to recieve from God.
  2. Faith is the proof of the unseen thing we are hoping for (that thing which we cannot yet feel, see, touch, taste or smell and hear, but we know it’s comin in our spirit)
  3. So faith then is acting as if Gods word is true when there is no evidence/proof.Having faith is the proof you need.
  4. Faith is also then acting as if all needs/expectations are met through God,even though they haven’t come to pass yet.
  5. Faith is then also taking corresponding actions in obedience to the word of God.
  6. Faith is also then by extension believing/having the ability to believe the word of God unconditionally inspite of the surroundings.

In His letter to the Romans Paul wrote;

For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith

I like this translation better KJV Rom 12v3. Other translations water down the words in my opinion. The latter part of the verse “the measure of faith” is put as “a measure of faith” which was a confunsing point for me because I thought we are given different measures of faith. So then the bishop has more faith surely.Wrong “the measure” to me means a one quantity, amount, quality, volume in other words “equal measure of  faith”

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

Paul further writes to the Ephians in 2 v 8  that the grace of God awarded us salvation and through faith which we were able to obtain this salvation. But it was a gift to all mankind for he so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son.

Question then; did God offer more salvation to one man and less to the other? Are you then more saved than the next woman?

I find the notion ludacris,it would be inconsistent with the character of father God since he is not a respector of persons, the day you got saved you got all the faith you will ever need. How effective it is,how you develop it,what you use it for,how you exercise it, is matter up to you individually.

Hence there are difference people with different kinds of faith individually; strong faith, weak faith, little faith,no faith, mature faith……all these down to the persons described.

When is it?…..now faith is………….present tense. Now, this very moment, currently.See even if we remove the “now” we still have “faith is…” Not “faith was” past tense,or “faith will be” future tense.I therefore submit to you that faith is now present time.

As creatures bound by time we forget that God is not subject by and to time.

Still not convinced? Look at what Jesus said

Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.

The gospel according to Mark in 11 v 24,I wanted to take  the when. Jesus says  whatever you want, when you pray(present tense;not when you have finished praying) believe that you have them and they are yours.

  • When do you pray =now
  • When do you believe =now
  • When is now =present =now

Christ never said “believe you shall recieve them” =future tense or “believe you had recieved them” past tense,he said “believe you have them” present tense.

Therefore faith is ….now

Faith is in you and faith is you and faith is a part of you

To understand this part you will need to understand the nature of  God,creation and the holy trinity.

  1. God the father is the creator
  2. The Holy Spirit is the guide
  3. Jesus the son is the messiah

Now, three parts,One God,different functions the same Being/diety. Allow me to give an example ;a Man  can be a brother, the same man can be a son and he can also be a husband.

A man was created in Gods image

  1. Spirit ;the real you
  2. Body; the flesh of clay
  3. Soul ;the mind,the will,the intellect,the emotions.

When you got born again the only part that was replaced was the spirit.Thats the only perfect part of you.The Body and soul remiss corrupt.

So the spirit is you,the soul is in you and the flesh is apart of you.

But our faith rests in him.

E is for Expectations

Whether it’s hoping that a child does well in school,a promotion at work for our hard work, the train to pull in on time, traffic to be good, rainfall or snow or whether that he will pick his socks up off the floor…….what ever it maybe we all  have them……Expectations.

As most things go expections can be bad or good.

There is  always a way to have your expectations met positively as long as you follow the method father God provided.

I have found that following these steps am about to share with you,one can have all thier expections/needs met.And I am yet to be disappointed.

Bear one thing in mind though, these are Godly principles that are/should be consistent with a Godly way of living ie does God/would God approve?

1-Recognise your source

 My soul, wait thou only upon God;

for my expectation is from him. Ps 62 v 5

There is need to recognise where your expectations come from. This then cuts both ways.Be in check to see who gives you the idea, the thought, the desire, the hope of the expection and on the other recognise who is it that will provide the means and method for that expectation to come to pass.

I say this because for a long time I confunsed the channel that God used to provide things through to me as my source.Allow me to explain, say when one needs to pay some bills or wish to purchase something, one needs money that is the medium of exchange in the world system. One then tends to look at his Job,business, loan, mum, dad, wife, husband etc etc as a source of the money needed to fulfill said need.

The trouble with this thought process is that if that “source” dries up one is left helpless and hopeless.Jobs end, businesses close down, relationships breakdown and loans are denied.

However if you know God as your source the Jehovah jireh who provides then you know he never dries up and never closes for business. He will provide through different channels and can use anything or anyone to meet your expectation.

When one knows this truth that God is my source then one never panicks neither do they lose hope when a job ends or a loan is denied or when it looks like things won’t end up well. One knows that if God is my source then am going to be alright.

Important to know the difference between the source and a channel,in case it’s not clear yet; God is the source. The job,the business, the people that help out are mere channels.

In oil production there is a well somewhere(source)and they build a pipeline(channel) to get the oil from P to Q.Similary there is gas underground but in winter to heat up our homes pipelines are built to deliver the gas for heating safely into our homes, the pipes are just a delivery system the gas reserves are elsewhere. When and if the pipeline breaks down other arrangements can be made to deliver the gas to you,if however the gas reserves (source) is depleted then you are in trouble.

2-Test/Measure your Expection

The hope of the righteous shall be gladness:

but the expectation of the wicked shall perish.Prov 10 v 28

Wickedness can simply be defined as knowing what the right thing to do in a any given situation is, and you then choosing to do the opposite.

Granted at times we may want wrong things with a right motive or ask for wrong things in ignorance, but God never blesses dis function.

This step is vital because we need to test our expactions. Its amazing the things we hope for; we need that apartment and are just hoping the occupant gets evicted,we need that man so are we praying the wife dies so we can get with him.Little things that normally would go unchecked, victimless crimes if you will which we justify by saying “am not hurting anybody after all”.

To cut it short,test your expection,what does God’s word say about it?Does he approve?An easier question would be;

Is my expection consistent with a godly way of living?

3-Gain confidence of entitlement of your expectation

A sense of entitlement that something belongs to you and the confidence of it are two entirely different matters. You have to be sure what you want is yours and was promised to you by God.

You do this by finding the scripture that whatever it is you seek is covered in.An illustration, when I got tired of living a defeated life I knew there had to a better life than the one I had.Because of what I was taught in church before and what I heard others preach,I went on about in my life with worry, anxiety, sickness, living in lack basically and I just this is life, what you gonna do?

It wasn’t until I got into the word and the Holy Spirit revealed what dominion and inheritance is due to me through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Promises of God are alive and effective today just as they were in the old,but you have to know they are meant for you personally otherwise the enemy will snatch that knowledge from you if you let him. Then you will suffer for people do suffer for the lack of knowledge.

The word is alive today, find it as it applies to your expection and then own the word.

4-Hope for your expection

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for .………….Heb 11 v 1

Why is hope then so important.Easy without hope your faith has nothing to connect to,and nothing works or comes to manifestation without faith.

Without faith it is impossible to please God,without faith the game is over, the just shall live by faith it’s a lifestyle,we walk by faith not by the senses/sight/sounds/feelings(circumstances, what it looks like it will be).

We must have hope and maintain this hope for it also shows confidence in the God in whom we hold such hope for.He who comes to God must come so with the knowledge that he (God)is just and a rewarder to those that seek him.

Paul wrote in Romans 8 v 24-25 that

For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for? But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it.

I want to borrow from the latter part,we must be patient in holding on to our hope.We are creatures of time yes but we must remember the principles of time. And waiting is a part of it from sowing to harvest a element is involved. If your expection is a baby and you are a man then it begs reason that you must find a woman first then marry her then wait at least 9 months for baby to come.In the natural at least in Gods way.A time element is involved. Now that’s not to say God is limited by time,he works miracles but in most cases I have found from my point of asking and gaining my expectation to the point when it comes to fruition, waiting was involved not always but often enough.

The bible uses patience, long suffering, perseverance synonymously.Life is a journey, more like a marathon not a split, marathon runners patiently and succesfully pace themselves and wait for the opportune moment .

5-Stand for your expectation

Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. Eph 6 v 11

This last step is where most of us drop the ball.I thought spiritual warfare was about fighting the devil and his demons till I learned it is for defense.

This is what I never understood,God through Jesus has already given me whatever, everything, all things that I will ever need in this life. The mandate of the enemy is to kill steal and destroy, what though?he is here to steal kill and destroy the finished works of Jesus in our lives. That means health, peace, joy, love,…………….

Notice the verse says STAND,not get up,so this would suggest to me that you are already in an upright position. All you are doing is maintaing your rightful given position.

But  STAND in the way it’s taught

  • The helmet of salvation;for you are saved by grace not works (nothing you did, save accept Jesus Christ )
  • Breastplate of righteousness;vest that protects your heart, emotions when u are facing opposition as you STAND
  • Shield of faith to cover you when the enemy throws those darts of doubt, unbelief, hopelessness
  • Sword of the spirit ;the word of God read your bible meditate on his word
  • Guirt up your loins with truth;Jesus the way the truth the life, bring Jesus with you.
  • Gospel of peace on your feet;not this ministry of death and condemnation, hellfire and brimstone but of the good news gospel of love and grace and the kingdom.

Having done all and guarded your expectation believe God and watch it manifest.

The ABCs of God, C

As we press on the reminders on the “little” things Christians must know to lead the life God intended us to lead.Things that will work for us or against us and things we need to do or not do,we get to C.

C is for Conviction and Condemnation

Both of these have one common factor which is judgement.
Not all judgement is bad,but how it’s administered and what effect will it produce is key and important.

Why is it then important for a Christian to recognise which is which,
Well it’s rather simple. These two can easily be mistaken for the other and if not properly discerned, that will wreak havoc in a Christian’s life.

So then Condemnation seeks to judge you into realising what you have done wrong but the manner in which it is done,is such that the end result will bring you shame, regret, guilt ,fear, resentment which in the end doesn’t set to “rehabilitate” the individual in question but often times, makes the behaviour worse.

In a state of Condemnation then, one is constantly reminded of the wrong they have done and they will never see themselves any better off than they currently are.

Condemnation is a result of judgement either self judgement or judgement passed on us by others.
In either case the results are all the same.
Watch this:-

When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee?
She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more. John 8 v 10-11

This is the time when they had brought a woman caught in the act of adultery over to Jesus.
Notice how He dealt with this situation marvellously,he recognised the fact they were all condemning her and nothing positive was to come out of it.They only seek one thing which to show her, her guilt and end her life.Nothing positive here at all.Jesus then, did prove their Hypocrisy, for none stoned her,he had simply answered them:

He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her John 8 v 7

Even Jesus himself let her go,infact he set her free.

For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

John 3 v 17

Interesting how everyone knows the verse 16 before this one but not a lot pay attention to how the chapter ends.
The very purpose Jesus came the first time around was to redeem mankind and not to condemn it.This is Yet another time Jesus mentions about not condemning,he said those that are in him/believe in him are not condemned, the purpose for it was to show those that didnot believe in him, that he was the light and the light had come.
Paul mirrors this Rom 8v1:-

8 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

And the Lord God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou? And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself. Gn 3 v 8-9

Watch Adams reaction once he became aware of his sin,he hid away in shame and fear. Now I understand why God had to shut man out of the garden and protect the tree of life.If man had eaten from the tree of life then all mankind would have lived forever but would have remained in an eternal state of condemnation without hope of redemption,…woo thank God for Jesus.

Now,notice then when feeling condemned one always stays away from God,this is so because one looses their sense of righteousness.
watch:- I never said that one looses their righteousness but I said their “sense” of righteousness.Your righteousness is not a result of you but of Jehovah Tsidkenu, for his name sake, for he is your righteousness.

And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.Rev 12 v 10

I then submit to you that condemnation is the work of the devil or his agents since condemnation always has an accusatory tone to it.Now since the point of attack from the devil towards you is in your mind,he introduces thoughts in your head and constantly reminds of your short comings to the point that you begin to believe the lies he is telling you.

The only way to combat this is to confess.A word very misunderstood by many.
Confession is all about “agreeing with what God says about you”:

-If he said you are more than a conqueror then you are.
-If he say you are his beloved child then you are.
-If he says he will never leave you not forsake you then he won’t.
-If he said you were redeemed from sin and death, then listen u were.
-If he said all your sin and inequity he remembers no more then he doesn’t.

Remember his word created the heavens and the earth, his word is sovereign. Isaiah wrote in 55 v 11:-

So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.

We need to get out of the trend of believing the negative over the positive but sadly that what mostly happens in a Christians lives’.

Let’s renew our minds.

Conviction
Now don’t think that you can run around free and act a fool and let your life represent sin just because you are forgiven,no no no!!

If you are truly saved and baptised in the Holy Ghost, then meet Mr Holy Ghost,he is about to convict you.
See now here he will show the wrong you are doing or have done but this will all be in an effort to get you to do better for the next time you encounter or are encountered with the same situation/temptation that just got you defeated. He convicts ie convinces you to do better.

This process can feel like condemnation to begin with but the key difference is,conviction wont go past the point where you feel worthless to change.

Infact the key to recognising that you are being convicted is that the moment you start to repent all the guilt, shame, fear, all the negative stuff will just start to supernaturally lift off you.
Repentance is however another word very misunderstood, this means to “change ones mind about a situation/behaviour in an effort to do right” James wrote in 4v7:-

Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

Therefore then conviction can only be the work of the Holy Spirit,it’s that inner voice that encourages you to do better, reminds you that you are worth more than your actions
“I may ve done what they said I did,but I am not what they say I am”

the Spirit within guides, comforts, makes intercession, corrects, coaches, tells it like it is

One writer says:-

Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.Rom 8v26.

Jesus put it like this in john 14:-

And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;

So what are to say then?Well
Don’t be so far gone that you can’t be convicted.Equally don’t be so far down in the dumps that you feel like the cat that ate the cream, and won’t do nothing can’t do nothing about your situation

Very important to understand these two in your life and the parts they play.

The ABCs of God,A to B

I believe in taking things back to the basics and nothing is more basic of a foundation as the alphabet.I want to tackle A through Z in this series.

In order to live the life God intended for us there are a few things as Christians we must know, things which will work for us or against us and as well as things we must do along the way.

A is for Abundance:

John10v10 Jesus spoke about coming to give us life but not just any kind of life but one of abanduance;fullness to overflowing. This would then mean that if there is any portion of your life missing something,to use my best grammar “it ain’t full” as a child of God then, there is need to be in persistent pursuit of a fulfilled life because anything less than is living beneath your privilege(n) a special right, advantage granted and available to a particular person.

Last I read Gal 3v13-14
Paul mentioned that Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law, that the blessing of Abraham may come upon the gentiles.
And I know how Abraham was blessed by the words spoken by his servant to rabekah in Gn 24v35

and The Lord had blessed my master;he has become a wealthy man

Gn24v1

and The Lord had blessed him (Abraham ) in every way

emphasis on everyway.

The picture I have of Abraham isn’t one of a sick, tormented, worrysome, broke individual,oh no! even the very thing he lacked, God delivered in the end and that was Issac.

What are you Lacking? If we are to really examine our lives as Christians can we then say truly that we are living a full life overflowing as Christ intended it to be?
Can we say we are in a state of nothing missing nothing lacking nothing broken?A state of wholeness which I like to call “healed

So the first thing we must know is that we are redeemed by Christ and by that we were,we are bought back by the blood covenant of the cross abundance is ours by right.
Whether we accept and utilise this right is left to us.

B Is for Bondage

As the Spirit would reveal it,this is simply anything that keeps you from living the life God promised you.

Bondage serves to keep you in captivity in an involuntary servitude,a form of slavery if you will, keeping you in a state of being bound by or subject to being under the control/power of a thing.

Notice in the bible when bondage is mentioned it serves to oppose liberty.

For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father Rom 8 v 15

As far as opposition goes the direct opposite to this spirit of bondage is the spirit of adoption which by the word above we have recieved.

So for a true revelation you have got to know what manner of a father adopted you.You got to know what your daddy in Christ brings to the table.Apart from salvation does he bring deliverance?does he bring peace?does he bring provisions of wealth, counsel?guidance? Your daily bread? Wisdom to handle that difficult situation. Does he? or does he?

Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.Rom 8 v 21

Being in bondage means you are subject to an evil,negative force,situation or circumstance,but be as that may the good news is by virtue of the Holy Spirit which dwells in you,you have within you the very power to overcome ;

Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.1 john 4 v 4

Kingdom living suggest to me that we are subjects to one king our Sovereign God,therefore if we are in bondage of any form we aren’t living kingdom life, for we are subject to two masters and that doesnot compute.Thing is,God is omnipotent;all powerful and has already redeemed us by Christ Jesus.

So if we still being oppressed by the spirit of bondagewe need to know the power of our father and the opposite spirit he provides to overcome evil demonic oppression.

Questions comes then can Christians be oppressed? Can they are be in bondage? Well absolutely yes.
If we see the state of the church today and in Christians lives we see the need of deliverance from a number of things, yokes need breaking from lack of peace, lack of finances, lack of physical and mental health, lack of power (ie the ability to get the will of God done in their lives),lack of knowledge, lack of vision, deliverance needed from religion which brings forth self righteous Christians,

I suppose the biggest problem most of us have is we stopped at the cross,we don’t go beyond that, hence we live beneath our privilege and have become comfortable with being uncomfortable.

Are we still in bondage or are we in a state I like to call “delivered
